ONYX

*ONYX* IN A NUTSHELL: Waiting for vet visit to verify age but thinking between 2 and 4 years of age. Good with other dogs. Housetrained.
We don't often (make that never) start our bio pages with the picture of a rope and a fence, but this is how Onyx came into rescue ... hog-tied tightly to the fence with this rope, near a row of mailboxes at the end of a dirt road ... in the pouring rain.

Our good friends, Chuck and Jon, were driving home and stopped for the mail at their mailbox near the highway where they found Onyx, soaking wet, rope still around her neck, following the Good Samaritan who had freed her from the fence. He said that she had been completely bound to the fence, unable to free herself. Chuck and Jon knew there was no way they were leaving her there.

According to Chuck, "There was another man at the mailboxes before us and he'd untied her. She started following him, so I asked Jon to ask if she was his. He said 'no,' he'd just untied her. She was shivering from being out in the rain, besides being dumped, and actually tried giving her paw twice to Jon. It was so sad. After the mailboxes, we took her home, cut the cords off and unraveled the boat rope. She ate dinner then took custody of a dog pillow."

Chuck reports that she like couches, dog pillows and beds but we're being told that the resident husky pack is loudly protesting her presence on the bed! "She's fine loose with our guys [the huskies], but does like to police the cat, so she's kenneled when Jon and I are away from the house."

Onyx will be seeing the vet this weekend for a checkup to determine her age, spay/unspayed, shots, microchip, etc., after which she will be available for introductions and adoption. She is currently in California, but can be brought to Phoenix if there is interest.
