| *LOBO* IN A NUTSHELL: Very large, beautiful senior boy. Very shy and unsocialized with people. | |||||||||
We were contacted in late December by a neighbor of Lobo's owner, "Paul," who was losing his home at 84 years of age and having to move into smaller quarters where Lobo could not follow. We were asked if we could find somewhere for Lobo in our rescue. When we asked for photos, the kind neighbor sent a few:
  Not wanting Lobo to go into a boarding situation, we posted him on our website and prayed that someone would be ready, willing and able to help. Our prayers were answered when foster mom Lynn emailed and said she would provide Lobo with a foster home. UPDATE 1/24: We were finally able to go and meet Lobo today accompanied by potential foster mom Lynn and her friend, Deb. He was very hesitant about meeting us, but once we asked Paul to go back into the house and leave us outside with Lobo, he calmed down and immediately started to warm up to Lynn (thanks to the delicious treats she had brought with her).
We then walked Lobo out into the front of the house where Paul said his goodbyes. We had been concerned about getting Lobo into Lynn's vehicle, but as soon as she opened the door ... he jumped right in and was ready to go for a ride!!
FOSTER UPDATES: Lynn reports that Lobo is settling in very well and has become comfortable with her, but he still hides when anyone (even Deb) comes into the home. She is going to work on socialization, which has been sadly lacking for poor Lobo.
Unfortunately, Lynn has discovered that Lobo's teeth are in very bad shape. Some of them are even black and his gums are red and swollen. She will be taking him to her vet for a thorough exam, but having quite a bit of experience with senior dogs' teeth, in our considered opinion, at the very least, Lobo will need a full dental and removal of the dead teeth. This is a huge expense (upwards of $2,000 -- the official estimate is $2,354.25) that we did not expect, nor can we afford, so we are asking for help. Any amount would help Lobo.
FOSTER UPDATE 2/12: "Lobo is improving a little every day. He loves Deb now, but gets excited
He has his safe place under the living room bench.
He is the only dog I have ever had that only poops once a day! I was making some
progress with the crate training and then he refused to go in it when I had a
doctor's appointment the other day, so I locked him in my bedroom and he was fine.
He doesn't race into the house when he hears noises in the yard anymore and is
somewhat curious of his surroundings. He isn't trying to jump the fence anymore
but I still take him out on a leash and Deb and I walk him around the yard. He loves
having his belly rubbed and isn't a constant velcro dog although he is usually following me!
He lets me take a shower alone now and hasn't counter surfed since he broke the spoon
rest on my stove. He's your typical GSD...VERY SMART Lobo's foster mom, Lynn, has an Etsy page with excellent reviews. GodNCountryCreations FOSTER UPDATE 2/20: "Lobo is getting better every day! I now leave the house without crating him. He has the run of the house and aside from the difficult time I have getting out of the house, he behaves perfectly while I am gone. I have left him alone for 4 hours yesterday. I no longer take him out on a leash, but stay in the yard with him. He doesn't try to jump the fence even when he sees Deb! Today I let him out of the fence to see Deb and he came right back when I called him!" UPDATE 2/25: Lobo saw the vet today and we received the estimate for his dental work... almost $2,500. Needless to say, this is quite a shock but for Lobo's sake, we have to raise the funds and get it done for him so that he can live a comfortable life. Any and all donations to help him are greatly appreciated. UPDATE 4/2: Even though we fell short of our goal, Lobo had his dental surgery today -- HE LOST 20 TEETH!!! He will be recuperating at the home of his foster mom, Lynn, where he will spend the rest of his days being doted on and loved. Adoption fee: Staying with his foster.
