| Does it get any cuter than this?! Gwen (nicknamed "Bananas" for her scarf design) was found in a northern California hotel after the occupant had checked out. Animal control was notified and they came for her, scanned her and found that she had a microchip! After the owner (who apparently lived in Nevada) was notified, she promised she was coming (supposedly on a bus) to pick Gwen up, but day after day Gwen waited and no one ever showed up. Once ownership passed to the shelter, we were asked if we could make room for her, even though she wasn't white, and we said YES.
We believe Gwen is a "lilac" shepherd -- the rarest color of German shepherd. According to Google, "a dilute liver German Shepherd, often called an Isabella or lilac German Shepherd, features a light taupe, grayish-brown or champagne coat with a liver or pinkish nose and lighter eyes. This rare coloring happens when a dog inherits two recessive liver genes and two recessive blue dilution genes. This combination washes out the traditional black pigment, leaving a unique, soft shade that looks like a blend of silver, lavender, beige, and rose-grey." Whatever she is, she's totally adorable -- gotta love those ears -- and headed to Phoenix soon in search of her forever home! Gwen will be on a flight from northern California to Bakersfield where she will be picked up at the airport by our dear friends, Chuck and Jon, from Husky Camp. As soon as a ride can be arranged, we will be bringing Gwen to Phoenix. UPDATE 8/14: Our thanks to the folks at Solano, the pilot (Mike) and co-pilot and Chuck and Jon for Gwen's safe transport to Bakersfield.
Gwen will be enjoying the hospitality of Husky Camp until transport to Phoenix can be arranged for her. We anticipate her arriving in Phoenix in the next week to 10 days. UPDATE 8/21: Thanks to long-time supporters/fosters/volunteers/adopters Jim and Terri, Gwen will be coming to Phoenix on Tuesday, August 25th. We'd LOVE to have a foster (or foster-to-adopt) home ready and waiting for her when she arrives. If interested, please fill out a Prospective Adopter's Questionnaire (link below). She'd appreciate it! UPDATE 8/25: Gwen has been picked up in Ehrenberg by volunteer Jim and is heading for Phoenix.
After a brief stop-off in Glendale to meet Jim's family...
...Gwen arrived safely at White GSD Rescue in Phoenix. She was happy, friendly and outgoing to all, including the cat!
UPDATE 8/29: Gwen moved into her new foster-to-adopt home with John and Madi this morning.
