FENNEC

*FENNEC* IN A NUTSHELL: Sweet, friendly, outgoing youngster (under a year of age). She was given the highest score for behavior from the shelter staff. We'll be anxiously awaiting updates from her foster parents to fill in the blanks on this lovely little girl. Coming to Phoenix in late July.
Fennec came into a California kill shelter in June as a stray. She waited and waited for her family to find her ... but they never did. We don't know if they were even looking for her. We didn't find out about Fennec until she had been transferred to a different shelter and her time had run out.

Below are the videos we received when we were first asked to take Fennec. We didn't have a square inch to spare, BUT, thanks to Dani (who also helped us with Elsa and Frostie), Fennec had a ready-made foster waiting in the wings!!

Thank you, Carla, for the beautiful videos of Fennec in the play yard!

UPDATE 6/21: Thanks to Dani and fosters Courtney and Matthew, Fennec was pulled from the shelter this morning. Fennec will be staying with her fosters until we have room for her here in Phoenix. She will be spayed and ready for adoption (hopefully) by the end of July.

The Dream Team!
(Dani, Matthew, Courtney and (of course) Fennec!

Freedom!!

Thank you for helping me

Happy girl

It doesn't get any better than this!

Dani helped with the pull and pickup at the shelter and then Courtney and Matthew headed home with their new foster furbaby.

FOSTER UPDATE 6/25: "She's the biggest cuddle bug and always wants to be within an inch of a person at almost all times. Each ear has its own zip code and watching them shift based on what she's doing is so cute. She also sleeps like a spinal cord is a suggestion but likes to sploot out when she's eating. She has no problem walking on a leash, but whatever happened before or during her time at the shelter clearly affects her -- once a harness is on she's absolutely fine, but something about putting it over her head (whether putting it on or taking it off) scares her, and while she will go into the crate on her own volition to chill or get toys, if you try to actively put her in it she's terrified. Any idea of being enclosed or captured causes some panic.

She's getting more comfortable in general which is awesome. The first two days she wouldn't go to the bathroom in front of us, but she will now. She also had pretty much no command recognition and only sometimes responds to her name. I'm taking it slow but she's good on 'sit' and 'gentle' and we are working on 'down' and 'up.'

She's so happy and curious, she would also excel at being a guard dog of some kind. If she isn't napping she's patrolling around the apartment and looking out windows and keeping tabs on everything! She also does not believe in personal space and is offended if you want any. And, yeah, she tries to walk in between my legs but I'm way too short for that so she settles on trying to trip me from all angles. Also a side note, she loves stuffed animals and does in fact cuddle with them, too."

FOSTER UPDATE 7/10: "She's grown a lot in the last two weeks! She is very happy to no longer be a shelter dog and is very smart and feisty. Her fur is getting a bit fluffier, her legs are a bit longer, and her ribs aren't nearly as pronounced. She finished her medication, no issues taking it, didn't even need pill pockets she just ate it along with her food.

She is doing better at leash walking but needs to be on a relatively short leash for walks because she's still so excited by every person and dog she sees. She has made a few dog friends too! She has met a whole host of tiny dogs, one similar in size, and then another German shepherd that is easily twice her size, and those interactions are adorable. Her command recognition is growing -- sit, stay, come, lay down, up, and bathroom. And while she understands the words no and stop, she doesn't like to listen to them! So she gets redirected with come here and sit down to change whatever behavior is happening, generally barking late at night or trying to chew on something that is not food

She was deemed 11 months at the shelter near the beginning of June, so we decided to celebrate her first birthday! We made the 4th her birthday and she was not a fan of wearing a birthday hat but enjoyed her birthday scarf and birthday lamb chop and was not at all scared by the fireworks.

She's also gone on a few car rides and got her first pup patty from In 'n Out! I will be sad for her to go but happy she will have a home, she's such a cuddle bug she just wants love constantly
