*BLITZ* IN A NUTSHELL: Lovely adult gentleman who enjoys playing fetch and catching treats. We're just getting to know him!

We first heard about Blitz from our facebook angel, Kathy J, in early July, but we had no room for him and were unable to help. A few weeks later we received an email from Susie, a shelter volunteer, who stated that she had found a foster for Blitz and could we help? It was at the last hour -- Blitz was on the elist for that night so there was no time to think -- we said YES. Video by Kerstin Tula ~ THANK YOU!! According to shelter notes sent to us, "Blitz has been waiting at East Valley Animal Shelter since May 17 after he arrived as a stray. No one ever came looking for him. This handsome white German Shepherd is listed as 5 years old, but the volunteers who know him best believe he's likely much younger -- closer to 2. The reason he's now at risk is barrier reactivity in his kennel. Like so many dogs, the stress of shelter life doesn't show who Blitz really is. Outside of his kennel, Blitz is a completely different dog. He loves to play fetch and proudly brings the ball back (though he may stop for a quick chew before throwing it again!). He's incredibly food motivated, knows 'sit,' and is an expert at catching treats in midair. Offering treats with an open palm works best for him. Just as much as he enjoys playing, Blitz is happy to sit quietly beside you, chewing on a favorite treat and simply enjoying your company. Blitz has participated in multiple playgroups with other dogs. He is steerable, low energy, and enjoys mingling, though he prefers spending his time with people. He is tolerant / selective with dogs and started out as 'too polite to dogs sometimes' but is now more assertive and can be pushy. Blitz has spent nearly two months waiting for someone to see beyond the kennel door. He deserves a family who will give him the love, stability, and second chance he's been waiting for." He will be staying with her until a foster space opens up for him here in Phoenix. Until then, he's going to be a California boy!!
