| *ANGEL* IN A NUTSHELL: Very sweet youngster (under 2 years of age). |
| We had heard about Angel in early November thanks to our Facebook angel Kathy J, but there was no room at the inn. Angel had been picked up as a stray with wounds on his face and a pretty large hot spot.
Abridged Version of Shelter Notes from Various Staff: "Angel was very easy going and cooperative as we went for a walk in the parking lot. He sought and responded to affection. No reaction to other dogs we passed. Seems like a nice boy." "Angel spent most of his time standing next to me for affection. Takes treats gently." "...he liked head pets, he really enjoyed rump scratches -- he leaned in to get closer. He acted like he didn't know 'sit,' but took treat gently. He wasn't interested in the tennis ball but picked up the soft toy and shook it. The walk back was easy and, after tossing a treat, easy exit." "...He walked nicely to back lot where he left for a block walk. He was a little reactive when the other dogs gathered before the pack lot, but he was still manageable. He took my corrections well. On the walk we were confronted by an unleashed dog; he did amazing. The dog walked right up to us and he did not growl or lunge or anything. The owner came and got the dog and all was fine. Angel was easy to return to his kennel as he was tired. I was able to exit while he was drinking water. He could benefit from some more leash training but overall is a good dog." "...Loves to sniff and explore. Not super interested in dog in other yard or balls and treats. Takes treats nicely but seems picky which ones he likes. Liked the pool and head scratches." "...VERY housetrained. Pleasure to walk, then spent some extra time in a back enclosure where he wanted pets and cuddles from me. Easy to return. Very sweet dog!"
8/23 ~ Full Narrative from Volunteer Stacy: "I took Angel out for the Best Friends Adventure Day Out and he truly lived up to his name! He quickly warmed up to both me and my boyfriend, snuggling against us for pets right away. We brough him home to relax and get out of the heat and he kept wanting to be near us, curious of everything we were doing. He kept coming over to us on the couch or bed, but would only get up halfway, even with trying to coax him he wouldn't jump all the way up on the furniture. He is definitely a young boy and needs training on what is a chew toy and what is not, but we were able to grab anything from him (shoes, toys, even food) and he showed no signs of aggression or guarding. He was a perfect house guest -- no accidents and never barked at noises from outside. We only have a small yard, so we didn't get to let him run around or play fetch, but he loved just going in and out, sniffing the flowers. While waiting in the shelter lobby, he got worked up seeing the other dogs around backing and pulling so we did our best to avoid close interactions with other dogs. We took him on an early morning hikle and he did great with the exercise and seeing people, but he would get worked up (barking, pulling, whining) when passing other dogs. There were nosigns of aggression (growling, teeth, etc.) so it's unclear if he was more upset or anxious. He has bite marks on his face from his time as a stray, so it's possible his reaction to other dogs is more out of fear. We absolutely loved our time with him and want so much for him to find his forever home. He is still young and needs training and room to coam, but he really was an angel and will do great with anyone looking for a big dog with as big of a heart." When we had an adoption, we immediately had Kathy check back on Angel, and she found that he was still available. We wasted no time in asking our pull team at Husky Camp to grab him ASAP.
Angel will be enjoying the hospitality of Husky Camp for a few days before coming to Phoenix in search of his forever home. Adoption fee to be determined.
